McKinsey's Tech Agenda Confirms It: Logistics AI Should Orchestrate, Not Just Observe

AI-enabled logistics technology should move up the operational value chain. The job is no longer connecting parties. It is helping them run logistics better, more collaboratively and more efficiently, creating greater resilience and economic sustainability across supply chains. Half of all companies identify AI as their top investment priority for the next two years, and top performers are already scaling agentic systems that plan, decide and act across workflows. For logistics and supply chains, the biggest value will come from improving operational decisions across fragmented workflows rather than adding more dashboards or standalone tools. The most relevant shift is from AI as analysis to AI as execution support: faster and better decisions on provider selection, routing, inventory placement, exception handling and customer communication.
